Sorbitol

Sorbitol is a mono sugar alcohol made after enzymolysis and refined processing of starch into glucose, hydrogenation reduction, refinement and crystallization with the function of catalyst. Sorbitol crystal has four crystal forms—α, β, γ and δ. Huakang produces γ-crystal form, which owns the best stability, high melting point, excellent humidity resistance and a special nature of direct compression. At present, it has been widely used in chewing gum and tablet candy.

Sorbitol, molecular formula C6H14O6, relative molecular weight 182.17; its chemical structure is shown as follows:

Sorbitol crystal is a white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless, with cool sweetness. Its sweetness is 0.5~0.7 times as much as cane sugar; melting point is over 95°C; it is easily soluble in water, but slightly soluble in organic solvents. With good resistance to acid and heat, it doesn’t make Maillard reaction with amino acid and protein easily.

1 It doesn’t lead to decayed tooth and owns potential resistance to decayed tooth.

2 It doesn’t raise blood glucose after being eaten, so it can be used as food sweetening agent and nutritional agent for diabetes patients. 

3 With low calorie, it gives a cool feeling to those who eat it. 

4 It doesn’t make Maillard reaction with amino acid and protein easily.

5 Excellent humidity resistance, mobility and anti-crystallization; good processability.

Storage Condition

The product shall be stored in cool, dry, ventilated and clean places.

Product Application

1 It is used to produce sugar-free candy and health-care tablets (lozenge).

2 It is used in food processing industry, such as biscuit, pastry, bread, chocolate and chewing gum.
